Lip filler has quietly become one of the most requested treatments at OYESPA — and almost never for the reason people assume. Most guests are not chasing dramatic volume. They want balance, softness and lips that look like a rested version of their own. Here are the ten reasons our guests in Inver Grove Heights book the treatment, and what to expect when you do.
1. Restore volume you have naturally lost
Lips thin with age. Collagen and hyaluronic acid production slow down through your thirties and forties, and the border of the lip flattens, which makes the whole mouth read smaller and less defined. A conservative amount of hyaluronic acid filler puts that lost cushion back.
The goal at this stage is restoration, not enlargement. Guests routinely tell us the result looks like the lips they had ten years ago, which is exactly the outcome we are aiming for.
2. Create balance between the upper and lower lip
Very few faces are naturally symmetrical, and a top lip that sits noticeably thinner than the bottom is one of the most common things guests point out in the mirror. Filler placed strategically — often more in the upper lip than the lower — evens the ratio.
Balance is also about the face as a whole. Your injector considers your chin projection, philtrum length and smile line before deciding where a single drop of product goes.
3. Define the lip border and Cupid's bow
You can add definition without adding much volume at all. Precise placement along the vermillion border sharpens the outline of the lip, lifts the Cupid's bow and gives the mouth structure.
This is the treatment for anyone who feels their lipstick has nowhere to sit or who notices color bleeding outward through the day.
4. Soften fine lines around the mouth
Vertical lip lines — the ones that show up in photos and under lipstick — come from a mix of volume loss and repeated muscle movement. Hydrating filler placed superficially plumps the skin from beneath so those lines sit flatter.
For deeper etched lines we often pair filler with SkinPen microneedling or a professional peel to work on the surface texture at the same time.
5. Hydrate lips that always feel dry
Hyaluronic acid holds up to a thousand times its weight in water. In a Minnesota winter, that matters. Guests with chronically dry, flaky lips often notice a difference in comfort and texture, not only in shape.
It does not replace a good lip balm and SPF, but it does change the baseline.
6. Lift the corners of a mouth that turns down
A downturned mouth can make a resting face read tired or unhappy. Small amounts of support placed at the oral commissures — sometimes paired with filler in the chin or marionette area — subtly lift those corners.
It is one of the most emotionally satisfying results we see, because it changes how people feel their face comes across before they say a word.
7. It is quick, and the downtime is minimal
A lip appointment typically runs about 30 to 45 minutes including consultation, numbing and photos. Topical numbing plus lidocaine in most products keeps the treatment very tolerable.
Expect swelling for two to three days and the possibility of bruising for up to a week. Most guests book at least two weeks ahead of a wedding, reunion or vacation so everything has fully settled.
8. Results are gradual, buildable and reversible
You do not have to decide everything in one visit. We routinely start conservatively, let the lips settle for two weeks, and add more only if you want it. That approach is how natural results happen.
Hyaluronic acid filler is also reversible. If you dislike the outcome or something migrates, an injector can dissolve it with hyaluronidase — a safety net that most other aesthetic treatments simply do not offer.
9. It lasts long enough to be worth it
Most lip filler lasts somewhere between six and twelve months depending on the product, your metabolism and how much movement the area gets. Guests who exercise heavily tend to metabolize product faster.
Many people settle into a rhythm of one touch-up appointment a year, which keeps the result consistent rather than swinging between full and flat.
10. It is done by trained medical injectors in a calm setting
Lip anatomy is unforgiving. Vascular structure, product choice and injection depth all matter, which is why every injectable appointment at OYESPA begins with a consultation and a medical review — including a Good Faith Exam where required.
You are treated in a quiet Aveda spa rather than a clinical back room, with aromatherapy, a warm neck wrap and time to ask questions. Pair your visit with a facial or a massage and make a day of it.
Is lip filler right for you?
The honest answer comes out of a consultation. Some guests are better served by a lip flip, some by a hydrating facial and a better home routine, and some by filler placed in the chin rather than the lips at all. We will tell you which one you are.

Questions & Answers
Does lip filler hurt?+
Most guests describe it as very manageable. We apply topical numbing beforehand and the filler itself contains lidocaine, so the area goes numb quickly during treatment.
How long does lip filler last?+
Typically six to twelve months, depending on the product used, your metabolism and how much movement the area gets. Annual touch-ups keep the result consistent.
Will my lips look fake or overdone?+
Not if you start conservatively. We usually place a small, balanced amount, let it settle for two weeks and build from there only if you want more.
How much swelling should I expect?+
Swelling peaks in the first 24 to 48 hours and mostly resolves within three days. Bruising, if it happens, can last up to a week — so book at least two weeks before an event.
Can lip filler be removed?+
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with the result or the product migrates.
Do I need a consultation first?+
Yes. Every injectable guest completes a consultation and medical review, including a Good Faith Exam where required, before treatment.
What should I avoid before and after?+
Skip alcohol, fish oil, and non-essential blood thinners for a couple of days beforehand to limit bruising. Afterward, avoid heavy exercise, saunas and dental work for 24 to 48 hours.
