Gel vs. Pro Powder: Which Manicure Lasts Longer?

Both promise long wear. The right choice depends on how you use your hands, how your natural nails behave, and how you want the service removed.

Wear time and finish

Gel typically holds two to three weeks of flawless color. It cures under LED light, stays thin and flexible, and has the glassiest shine of anything on our menu. Pro powder — often called dip — builds in fine layers of pigmented powder sealed with resin, running three to four weeks and noticeably stronger.

If your nails bend or peel, or you work with your hands all day, pro powder gives you a reinforced surface that resists breakage. If you love a natural, barely-there thickness and change colors often, gel is the better fit.

Nail health comes down to removal

Neither product damages your nails. Improper removal does. Peeling, prying or scraping product off takes layers of the nail plate with it, which is the real reason people believe gel 'ruined' their nails.

At OYESPA we soak or gently file product away, never rip. Removal is included with your next service or can be booked on its own. Between appointments, cuticle oil twice a day does more for nail strength than any strengthening polish.

Extensions, builder gel and art

Want length? GelFX extensions add it cleanly, while builder gel reinforces your natural nail without adding much length — a favorite for guests growing out bitten or damaged nails.

Both gel and powder are excellent canvases for nail art. Bring a photo or an idea and add nail art to your booking so your technician can budget the time.

Questions & Answers

How long does a fill take?+

Most fills run 45 to 75 minutes depending on the product and whether you are changing color or adding art.

Can I switch between gel and pro powder?+

Yes. We remove the existing product completely before applying the new one.

Why is my gel lifting early?+

Usually oil at the cuticle, a missed prep step, or heavy water exposure. Tell us at your next visit and we will adjust prep.

Do you offer pedicures with the same products?+

Yes. Both GelFX and Pro Powder are available as pedicure services.
